Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V: The $1000 Website Project (A True Story)

August 30, 2025

I do freelance work to hone my skills and learn new ones. Not long ago, a client approached me with a request to make a copy of his partners' website, saying that “everything has been approved and there are no problems.” Without thinking twice, I decided to accept. I assumed that they had a repository from which I could take resources and make changes according to my client's requests. But it turned out to be much more interesting...

The client provided me with the contact details of his partners, whom I could contact regarding resources for copying the website. However, as it turned out, there were no repositories, and the website was built on Wix. I had to use HTTrack to download at least some data so that I could use it as a basis for creating something similar.

The first screenshot shows the original version of the website header, and the second screenshot shows my version, which is more lively and dynamic. At this stage, the front-end (HTML, CSS, JS) has been completed, and the logic development process will follow later. Thanks to my friend for helping me with JS, as I don't have the necessary knowledge of this language. I'll end this post here for now, and I'll add any further significant changes and how I wrote the logic once everything is ready.
